May 2025 State Budget

Around 80 people attended.

1.      7:00 – 7:10 – Ari opens the evening. Welcomes everyone, thanks partners, introduces elected officials, explains coalition and invites to check out our position, explains how important the budget is, and outlines the agenda. Ari conducts a survey and reports. Introduces Emily.

2.      7:10- 7:20 – Emily leads exercise on why we are here.  Introduces Susie

3.      7:20 – 7:30 – Susie does a quick rundown on education issues that appeared in the House version and the need for the Senate to make changes. The focus for tonight, is funding. Introduces Rachael.

4.      7:30 -7:35 – Rachael provides a basic overview of the contents to the FSFP; what makes it constitutional. Problem with residual funding and over reliance on property taxes. The need to fix what House approved. Rachael introduces Nneka.

5.      7:35 – 7:55   – Nneka talks about why school funding fix of FSFP is essential from perspective of a parent and board member, and will give an update on voucher lawsuit; need for advocacy. Introduces Kent Smith.

6.      7:55 – 8:15 – Senator addresses what concerns him in the House version, what is going on now, and advice for citizen advocacy.

7.      Emily demonstrates a call to a senator. Rachael then introduces taking action.  People take action.
