BOARD OF EDUCATION
Special Meeting of May 19, 1997
The Board of Education of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District, Cuyahoga County, Ohio held a special meeting in the public meeting room of the Board Building, at 2155 Miramar Boulevard, University Heights, Ohio, on May 19, 1997 at 6:00 p.m.
Mrs. Sumner, President, called the special meeting to order at 6:03 p.m.
Present at Roll Call: Mrs. Christine Sumner, President
Mr. Stephen Wertheim, Vice President
Mrs. Denise Brown Thigpen
Mr. Eric Silverman
Also Present: Dr. Paul W. Masem, Superintendent
Mr. Robert E. Burmeister, Treasurer
Members of the Central Office Staff
Patrons of the School District
Representatives of the News Media
Note: Mrs. Claudette Woodard arrived at the meeting at 7:20 p.m.
No. 97-05-075 It was moved by Mr. Silverman, seconded by
Mrs. Thigpen that the Board move into Executive
session to hear the appeal of student
disciplinary actions.
Vote on the motion was as follows:
Ayes: Mr. Silverman, Mr. Wertheim,
Mrs. Sumner, Mrs. Thigpen
Nays: None
The Board moved into Executive session at 6:36 p.m. and ended at 7:10 p.m.
The Special meeting reconvened at 7:22 p.m.

MOTION RELATED TO APPEAL HEARING
It was recommended that the Board of Education drop the charge of violation of Board Policy #5133, Class B Section I, and affirm the action of the Superintendent in the expulsion of "Student A", appeal having been heard in open session on May 19, 1997.
No. 97-05-076 It was moved by Mr. Wertheim, seconded by
Mr. Silverman that the Board make the change and
affirm the action of the Superintendent relating
to the expulsion of "Student A".
Vote on the motion was as follows:
Ayes: Mr. Wertheim, Mrs. Sumner,
Mrs. Thigpen, Mr. Silverman
Nays: None
Abstain: Mrs. Woodard
MOTION RELATED TO APPEAL HEARING

Ayes: Mrs. Sumner, Mrs. Thigpen,
Mr. Silverman, Mr. Wertheim
Nays: None
Abstain: Mrs. Woodard

Ms. Wynolia Randle, Roxboro Elementary Teacher, Ms. Ann Bonaudo, Student Teacher, Ms. Kathy Manning, and Mr. Jason Young, Roxboro Middle School Teachers and several students from both schools, gave a Science presentation titled Investigations into Flight. Certificates of Achievement were awarded.
Mrs. Sumner conducted a question and answer session with Board members, Administrators and members of the audience regarding The Peat Marwick Report, Facilities Report and the Technology Report. Discussion ensued.
No. 97-05-078 It was moved by Mr. Silverman, seconded by
Mrs. Woodard that the meeting be adjourned.
Vote on the motion was as follows:
Ayes: Mrs. Woodard, Mrs. Thigpen,
Mr. Silverman, Mr. Wertheim, Mrs. Sumner
Nays: None
The meeting was adjourned at 9:08 p.m.
